Desert Song Festival - 8th to 17th September 2017

Over 10 days each September, singers and musicians, choirs and audiences from Alice Springs and Central Australia and visitors to the region experience something special, as choirs and musicians from this vibrant multi-cultural community come together to present a series of events that showcase incredible musical talent.

Through major concerts, chamber concerts and workshops, choirs, musicians, small vocal ensembles, individual performers, and ensembles from different sacred music traditions join in a number of events celebrating the singer, the song, the instrument, the land and its people. Aboriginal traditional and sacred music, African freedom songs, ballads, classical compositions, Caribbean folk music and a cappella singing all make their appearance on the cultural smorgasbord that is Central Australia.

Parrtjima A Festival in Light - 22nd September to 1st October 2017

Parrtjima – A Festival in Light, will also include a unique outdoor gallery of contemporary and traditional Aboriginal art from the desert region. Larger than life, it will be an experience of light and sound that the whole family can explore and enjoy.

Parrtjima takes place in Alice Springs – home of the Arrernte of Mparntwe – where it will illuminate the MacDonnell Ranges and create a breathtaking outdoor gallery at Alice Springs Desert Park, Larapinta Drive, Alice Springs, NT.

As well as the gallery of artworks, filled with light and sound, the festival will have a Hub of food and drink stalls. Come along to enjoy dinner in the outdoors.

The event aims to respectfully celebrate the vibrant Aboriginal arts and culture by inspiring audiences and bringing together communities through world-class artistic light experiences.

Tatts Finke Desert Race - 8th to 11th June 2018 

Considered one of the biggest sporting events of the year, the Tatts Finke Desert Race is an off road, multi terrain race for bikes, cars, buggies and quads through desert country from Alice Springs to the small Aputula (Finke) community. 

Held each year on the Queen’s Birthday June long weekend, “Finke” has the reputation of being one of the most difficult off road courses in one of the most remote places in the world. Finke is a unique and fun experience for both competitors and spectators and is sure to get your heart racing. 

The premier racing event attracts entrants from all over Australia and the world, including world-class Australian off-road and enduro motorcycle racer, Toby Price, who has won the race five times. This iconic event spans across 3 days and involves 650 bikes & quads and 150 buggies & trophy trucks.

Alice Springs Beanie Festival - 29th June to 2nd July 2018

The Alice Springs Beanie Festival is a must do for any beanie/hat lover. This weekend of entertainment, workshops, food stalls and crafts will have more than 4000 beanies on display. 

This annual event is held at the Araluen Art Centre and attracts thousands of visitors from all around the world. The Festival is a community- based event that began in 1997 with a ‘beanie party’, organised by Adi Dunlop. Originally the festival was run by a group of friends who volunteered to teach Aboriginal women in remote communities the art of knitting and crocheting. The beanies created were sold in town and the profits went back to the community.

These days the highly-anticipated festival has progressed into a fun event where Aboriginal and non- Aboriginal artists share their culture and exhibit together.

Alice Springs Show Weekend - 6th July 2018

Alice Springs is a feature stop in Australia’s red centre and the Alice Springs Show in July is one of the biggest social and agricultural highlights of the Northern Territory’s year.

The show runs on the first Friday and Saturday of each July, and Friday is always a regional public holiday. The show is held at the Blatherskite Park grounds to the south of town. 

The Centralian Beef Breeders Association holds three separate events over the weekend that include the Commercial Cattle Classes of unled cattle, Led Classes and the Grand Parade, and the Bull Sale and annual dinner. This group has a long history with the Alice Springs Show with the aim of improving the industry including beef cattle quality. Meat vendors sell samples of the high-end beef during the show.

Children are not left out and there are displays of their work, a special animal zone for handling and learning, and fun craft activities. And everyone can enjoy the dog show and trials, horse competitions, photography competition, showgirl competition, art, cooking, craft and the fireworks.

The Grand Parade is usually scheduled for Friday afternoon with everything from utes attending the Ute Muster, to champion bulls and show jumpers. People sit back in the grandstand or other vantage points around the ground and enjoy the performances.

Camel Cup - 14th July 2018

Join locals at this fun filled weekend of activities and experience a true Aussie outback style event with the multi-award winning Uluru Camel Cup.

Festivities kick off on the Friday night with dancing, food, drinks, live entertainment and race bidding ahead of Saturday’s award winning Uluru Camel Cup races. 

Saturday’s celebrated Uluru Camel Cup Race Day begins with qualifying races followed by an exciting Dash for Cash, Plate Race and the Uluru Camel Cup itself. Off the track there is plenty to see and do for the whole family with stock whip demonstrations, wheel barrow races, kids’ sack race and even a camel dung throwing competition. A kids club will be available on the day as well as lively outback-style markets. Ticket price for the Camel Cup Race Day is $10 per person, payable at the gate (prices subject to change). 

Guests are encouraged to frock-up and partake in the ever-popular Fashions on the Field complete with a parade and presentation.

Harts Range Races - August 2018 dates TBA

The annual Harts Range Racecourse is back for another year of family fun! Set in the picturesque East MacDonnell ranges area, this tradition has been going for 70 years originally starting at the Harts Range Racecourse. This highly anticipated events for locals and visitors alike is also known as the ‘Harts Range Bush Sports Weekend’, ‘Harts Range Races’ and 'The NT August Picnic Races Public Holiday'. 

Guests can expect over 2 days of fun and action including Stock-horse Races, Rodeo, Gymkhana, Sports events including Running Races, Novelty Races for kids, Lizard Race, Ladies Cow Tail Toss, Tug of War and Jumping Castle for the little ones and don't forget the Saturday night dance.

Please note that there are no ATM facilities or mobile phone service. Catering will be available courtesy of the Alice Springs Branch of ICPA. No alcohol is sold over the weekend BYO only. Ice will be available for sale.

Alice Springs Master Games - 13th to 20th October 2018

The highly anticipated Alice Springs Master Games are returning in 2018! We look forward to seeing competitors, volunteers and spectators attend this iconic event that is the second-longest running Masters Games in the world.

Participants compete for medals in 32 sports, and there is always a fantastic entertainment lineup for opening and closing festivities to keep the whole family entertained. 

In 2018 the Alice Springs Masters Games will celebrate its 31st anniversary. The 2016 30th anniversary was a huge success with hundreds of records broken and personal bests met or exceeded. There were 3838 registered athletes and officials, and more than 500 volunteers involved in delivering 33 sports over eight days. We can't wait to see what 2018 has in stall!

The Redback MTB Stage Race - August 2018 dates TBA

Alice Springs is surrounded by kilometre after kilometre of hand built single track made for mountain bikes by mountain bikers, and this award winning event allows you race the trails with an awesome four day event designed for everyone.

The single track around Alice Springs really has to be ridden to be believed and if you have not been to Alice Springs before you'll be blown away by the quantity and quality of riding, along with the jaw dropping Red Centre landscape.
